HTC’s vice president of product management, Mo Versi, confirmed that HTC One M8 smartphone will get the upcoming Android M update, which Google had unveiled at the Google I/O in May this year. Though Google yet to confirm the list of other smartphones that will get the update, it is expected that Android smartphones, namely, the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC M9, Nexus 6, Nexus 5 and Sony Xperia Z4, could get the update. The search engine giant is yet to officially provide the release date of Android M but according to unconfirmed reports, the mobile OS will start rolling out from November this year.

HTC’s Senior Global Online Communications Manager, Jeff Gordon had shared a tweet in May, saying the HTC One M9 and the One M9+ will be updated to Android M, reports Tech Times. In a response to a user’s query, Versi confirmed that the HTC One M8 will also get the upcoming update. HTC One M8 features Corning Gorilla Glass Display, 1080X1920 HD resolution with wide viewing angles, 2600 mAh battery and a next generation Snapdragon 801 quad core processor.

Other smartphone makers like Samsung and Sony have also announced that most of their high end smartphones will get the Android M update, reports Beta News. Android M is likely to bring in features like rotating home screen, which will allow Android phone users to use their phone in landscape mode, as well. The app drawer will also get a change, after which, handset owners can scroll vertically than horizontally on their handsets.

Google is working towards providing standardize support for fingerprint scanners on Android M based smartphones. Besides using the fingerprint scanners to unlock the handsets, users can also make purchases in the Play Store and in real life. In order to improve a device’s standby time, Android M will utilize a new function called ‘Doze’. The upcoming operating system will also come with motion detectors that can recognize if the device has not interacted with a user for a long time. In that case, it will automatically reduce the background processes, as per the Tech Times report.
