Huawei has announced the official roll out of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Ascend P7. The last pre-Marshmallow version of the operating system took a while to hit the device after being in beta for three months.

The latest update was rolled-out OTA (over the air) and will take few days to reach all users. Those owners that don’t want to wait for the OTA update can also visit Huawei's official website to download the firmware, reports GSM Arena

The download size of the update comes to 1.26 GB on the device; requires a Wi-Fi connection and at least 50 percent battery life to proceed. The new OS will bring a range of improvements to the handset.

Back in June, Huawei opened the public beta of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Ascend P7 with invitations to owners in Italy and Spain. The Ascend P7 was released in June 2014 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board and with Emotion UI 2.3. It’s speculated by Softpedia that Huawei might roll out the latest version of the Android Marshmallow to the flagship device in the next couple of months.

The Huawei Ascend P7 features a 5-inch display; a Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A9 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD card up to 64 GB. The handset is available in Black, White and Pink colours.

Earlier this month, the most popular variants of Huawei Ascend Mate7 -- MT7-L09 and MT7-TL10 -- also received the Android 5.1.1 update on the top of EMUI 3.1 for the European version of the handset. Huawei is expected to include quite a few bug fixes and security patches in the latest firmware update. In the meantime, the successor of the P7 (the Ascend P8) also received a software update still based on Android 5.0 Lollipop a month ago.
