Huawei P9 announced: Price, release date, specifications and more
Huawei has officially announced its flagship smartphones, the P9 and P9 Plus, with both devices available in Ceramic White, Haze Gold, Prestige Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Titanium Grey.
The Huawei P9 comes in a all-metal unibody design with curved edges. The phone is just 6.95mm thick and resembles the stunning Nexus 6P.
The main focus of the new flagship is its dual-lens camera set-up featuring two 12-megapixel sensors with an f/2.2 aperture. The dual-camera unit, manufactured by Leica, will enable users to capture images and shoot videos in both bright and low light conditions. Both smartphones also sport 8-megapixel front-facing shooters for selfies.
The P9 features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD (1080x1920 pixel) resolution. The P9 will be available in two built-in storage and RAM configurations including 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native memory along with a beefy 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
Like Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5, the P9 features a 3,000mAh battery.
The Huawei P9 Plus, previously rumoured to be known as the P9 Max, sports a 5.5-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display. The device also touts Press Touch pressure-sensitive technology. Its bigger sibling is available in a 4GB/64GB configuration.
The Huawei P9 Plus sports a massive 3,400mAh battery, almost similar to Huawei’s Nexus 6P which sports a 3,450mAh battery. The bigger sibling also offers “dual-IC Rapid Charge, giving users six hours of talk time after a 10-minute charge,” Huawei confirms.
Both handsets come with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, allowing their internal storage capacity to be expanded up to 128GB.
There are also some other common specifications between the P9 and P9 Plus. For instance, both devices are powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 955 SoC, and run on Google’s latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top.
The Huawei P9 with 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage is priced at AU$899 whereas the model with 4GB RAM/ 64GB internal storage comes with a AU$974 a price tag. The premium larger screened Huawei P9 Plus price starts at EUR AU$1124.
The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus release date is set for April 16. Both variants will be available in 29 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa.
