iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 2: Which Smartphone You Should Buy this Fall
Two devices are expected to clash later this year. Tech giants Apple and Samsung are rumored to launch their flagship phones this fall.
News that Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be released this fall around September or October were going around for months. The two devices packed with incredible features will battle head on in the fourth quarter of 2012. Below is the comparison of the two much-awaited devices.
Screen Display
iPhone 5 is rumored to sport a 4 inch retina screen display. However, Galaxy Note 2 will have a mammoth 5.5 inch screen.
New Design
Both companies are working on new designs of their smartphones. Apple is known to stick on its minimalist, business design. It is speculated that Apple will slightly alter its design by sporting a tear drop design. Due to the unflattering appearance of its predecessor, Samsung is working on the design of the new smartphone. The Galaxy Note 2 design will be inspired by the Galaxy S3. Moreover, the new device will be thinner compared to the previous Galaxy Note.
Operating System
Apple recently launched its upgraded mobile operating system in the WWDC event earlier this month. IOS 6 will definitely be the new OS of iPhone 5. However, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is speculated to be supported by Android's latest OS - Jelly Bean.
Processor
An upgraded version of the iPhone 4S's A5 Chip - A5X Chip, is speculated to be incorporated in the upcoming iPhone 5.Galaxy Note 2, on the other hand, will be equipped with Exynos 5250 chipset.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was cited to be endowed with 12 megapixel rear camera. However, there was a rumor that iPhone 5 will incorporate a DSLR-like camera with changeable lens. This is strengthened by the patent recently filed by Apple. The iPhone 5 is reported to have an HD front camera that will enable the device to capture HD images.
NFC
Rumors suggest that Apple will be adorned with Near Field Communications, which allows devices to communicate or contact another device in close proximity. It almost works like Bluetooth. Moreover, NCF is the entry point for making mobile payments. There is no statement if Galaxy Note 2 will support NFC. However, if the device will be supported by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, NFC will come in tow.
Release Date
Both devices are speculated to be released this fall. However, reports said that Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will probably be released earlier than iPhone 5. This is to prevent being overshadowed by Apple's 2012 flagship phone.
Apart from the aforementioned similar features of the two devices, each device will have its own unique features. Apple's iPhone 5 is speculated to support 4G/LTE connection that will be its main selling point. However, the Galaxy Note 2 will have the SPen as its advantage feature. However, both companies are mum about the real specs, features and release dates of their respective devices.
