'Jane The Virgin' Spoilers: Showrunner Reveals Talks About Jane Losing Her Virginity
The CW’s hit new comedy series “Jane The Virgin” has returned after a couple of weeks off the air and the series has gotten even more complicated than ever. The telenovela-style comedy series has dealt with a lot of plot twists and larger than life storylines so far but there’s still plenty of episodes left to go. Showrunner Jennie Urman talks about the status of Jane’s virginity and how long she will stick to her vow.
The whole premise behind the show is how the main character Jane, has made a vow to remain a virgin until she gets married. This doesn’t mean that Jane isn’t a sexual and passionate person. She has had two major relationships so far in the series but Urman thinks that her resolve at keeping her virginity has not really been tested yet. She talks to The Hollywood Reporter about Jane's vow, how long she will keep it and how the show will go on after.
“I think she is going to wait until she gets married. That hasn't been tested [yet], but it's the plan as of now.” she explains. While the plan is to wait for marriage, this may not be that far in the horizon either. Jane got engaged early in the season to Michael. However, after some complications in their relationship including her accidental pregnancy, they have broken up.
In true telenovela style, the heroine was swept up by another charmer immediately. Now Jane is in a relationship with her baby daddy Rafael. He ws pretty shaken up when he found out about her vow but he has eventually accepted it. In this week’s episode, Rafael proposed to Jane. Even though she turned him down this time, they both agreed to get to know each other better and tackle the issue at a later date. With the baby coming soon and with Rafael pushing for their relationship to progress further, Jane could find herself being tested sooner rather than later.
When the inevitable does happen, Urman shares that they intend to use their interactive on-screen graphics to indicate Jane’s new status. She says they could just strike through the word and use the title “Jane the Virgin.” The show has been using on-screen graphics and words to emphasise major points throughout the season and Urman thinks this is one way to move forward once Jane does the deed. “Jane the Virgin” airs Mondays at 9 pm on the CW.
