‘King Arthur’ Charlie Hunnam Turned Down A Lot Of Roles Just To Be In ‘Crimson Peak’
Before landing the Arthurian role in Guy Ritchie’s “Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur,” Charlie Hunnam turned down a lot of roles just to work with his “Pacific Rim” director Guillermo del Toro. The actor and the Mexican director joined forces once again in the new Gothic thriller film “Crimson Peak” that is set in a crumbling mansion in the 19th century England.
Scheduled to premiere during the Halloween season on Oct. 16, “Crimson Peak” stars “Thor” star Tom Hiddleston as Sir Thomas Sharpe, a “charming hero with a mysterious past” and “Zero Dark Thirty” actress Jessica Chastain as Lady Lucille Sharpe, Sir Thomas’ sister. The female heroine is played by “Alice in Wonderland” actress Mia Wasikowska as Edith Cushing, a young author who discovers that her charming spouse is not who he appears to be.
Hunnam plays the quiet and shy Dr. Alan McMichael who is madly in love with Wasikowska’s character. The actor admitted that he is only playing a supporting character and credits the main cast for doing a wonderful job.
“I love Guillermo and wanted to work with him again,” Hunnam told Details. “If it had been anybody else, I probably wouldn't have taken the role. I had to turn down a lot other stuff to be free to do that. People were like, "What the fuck are you doing?" but I'm doing exactly what I damn well please. That's my answer.”
When asked what to expect on Guillermo’s latest horror flick, the “Sons of Anarchy” hunk revealed that Chastain is wonderful in the film and thinks that this could one of the director’s best films.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old star is currently filming in Wales with co-stars Jude Law (“Sherlock Holmes”) as the villainous Vortigern, Eric Bana (“Black Hawk Down”) as Arthur’s father Uther Pendragon and Astrid Berges-Frisbey (“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tide”) as the Arthurian love interest, Guinevere.
Set to premiere on July 22, 2016, “Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur” is Hunnam’s first project after wrapping his FX biker drama series with Kurt Sutter. Penned by Joby Harold, the film is the first installment of a planned six films series.
