The rumour dust about the new smartphone to rival the mighty Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has finally settled. LG has officially announced exactly that. The new device is named the LG Gx.

The newest smartphone from LG is pretty large with its 5.5-inch display. There are reports saying it is set to compete with the Samsung phablet line up, specifically the Galaxy Note 3.

Earlier this year, LG released the 5.2-inch LG G2 packed with impressive specs and features. This newly unveiled smartphone is almost similar to the LG G2 but with notable improvements in majority of its key areas.

Essentially, the LG Gx is the newest powerhouse smartphone from LG. But despite its improvements, other reports are saying that it might not compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 because the Samsung phablet has already been out in the market for quite some time and already selling millions. Although the Optimus G Pro outpaced the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in most categories, the LG Gx is quite late to come into the game this year.

Specs and Features

In addition to its 5.5-inch display, the LG Gx comes with a 1,920 x 1,080p full HD, 1.9 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 32 GB internal storage and 2 GB of RAM. It also features a 13 MP sensor camera, 2.1 MP front camera and 3,140 mAh battery which makes this device compete head-to-head with the HTC One Max and Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

The release of the LG Gx late this year is pretty odd especially with the upcoming CES and the Mobile World Congress early next year. It was expected that LG will temporarily hold its silence until those two events considering that the LG Gx is bigger than its flagship device, the LG G2. As the device is pretty late to the market, reports say it is likely to be changed with a more powerful device sporting Snapdragon 800 or 805 early next year.

Currently, it remains a puzzle whether the LG Gx is the successor to the LG Optimus G Pro or LG will release an LG G Pro 2 next year to compete with the Galaxy Note 4 or the Galaxy S5.
