Lumia 940: Windows 10 Flagship To Feature Iris Scanner, Docking Station And More
Microsoft Lumia 940 may be the much awaited flagship from the company. The handset has been speculated as the first Lumia flagship to feature the Windows 10 OS. Rumours about the Lumia 940 had started in November last year and since then there haven’t been any significant revelation about it.
Most companies have been using the fingerprint scanner for authentication on their flagships and high-end devices, but the Redmond giant is rumoured to launch the Lumia 940 with a next level biometric authentication feature. According to Fudzilla, it will be featuring with the innovative iris scanner for biometric security.
The new security feature will not require users to touch or swipe on the sensor to unlock the device. According to Webopedia, the iris scanner works by scanning the iris of the user and matches it with the image of the iris stored on the device. Fudzilla reports that the iris scanner on the Lumia 940 will support near-infrared imaging that will make it possible to function seamlessly in low-lighting conditions.
The other new feature that will be available on the Lumia 940 is the support for a docking station. For the first time a Lumia device will be seen equipped with such a feature. By using a docking station, owners of the Lumia 940 will be able to connect it to different accessories or it may even allow the device function like a standalone PC, states Fudzilla.
The Lumia 940 will be powered by Snapdragon 805 chip built with 28 nm technology or the newest Snapdragon 810 chip built with 20 nm technology. Rumours also indicate that the Lumia 940 will be featuring 20 MP to 30 MP camera that will come equipped with three LED flash lights.
As of this writing, the Redmond giant has not confirmed anything on launching a flagship device. According to the IBTimes report published on Jan. 9 this year, the Lumia 940 will feature a 5-inch full HD screen, Snapdragon 805 chip, 3 GB of RAM, 24 MP PureView camera, 5 MP front-facing camera, multiple inbuilt storage options such as 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB, Windows 10 OS and more.
