Lumia 950 vs. Lumia 950 XL: battle between Microsoft’s first Windows 10 phones

Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are the first two Windows phones that support Windows 10, the pre-orders of which have begun in the UK though shipping will start from Dec. 3.

UK fans can place orders for Lumia 950 at £449 (AU$961.00) and Lumia 950 XL at £529.99 (AU$1134) at The Carphone Warehouse, which lets you bag a much cheaper deal than what you’d get at a Microsoft Store, reports Know Your Mobile.

Display: The Lumia 950 is smaller in size at 5.2-inches than its counterpart, Lumia 950 XL, which boasts of a bigger 5.7-inch screen. Both phones use Amoled screen technology and are packed with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution, but the Lumia 950 screen has 564 ppi while the Lumia 950 XL has 518 ppi.

Processor: Equipped with hexa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, the Lumia 950 boasts of amazing performance. On the other hand, the Lumia 950 XL is powered by an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810.

Battery: The 950 XL excels the 950 in terms of battery power since the former comes with a user replaceable 3340 mAH battery and the latter has a user replaceable 3000 mAH. Both have Qi wireless charging capabilities.

Camera: The front and rear cameras are the same on both devices: an 20 MP PureView for its rear camera with a 1/2.4” sensor and triple LED flash along with a 5 MP front camera with f/2.4.

Storage capacity: Storage capability is same for the two phones with a 32 GB inbuilt memory expandable with a microSD card. Though the handsets have 3 GB RAM, the Lumia 950 is supported by LPDDR3 RAM while the Lumia XL is supported by LPDDR4 RAM.

Yet again, the Lumia 950 comes with Adreno 418 GPU and the Lumia 950 XL has an Adreno 430 GPU.

So far, both devices are stellar flagships, but if cost is a factor, then opt for Lumia 950. Otherwise, you may choose the Lumia 950 XL that’s a technically superior phone with better RAM, CPU and GPU.
