‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Sequel’s Title Is ‘Mad Max: The Wastleland,’ Director George Miller Confirms
While “Mad Max: Fury Road” is currently dominating the box office, director George Miller has confirmed that “Mad Max 5” is happening and the sequel will be titled “Mad Max: The Wasteland.”
Miller revealed the sequel title in The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith. In the interview, the director said, “We’ve got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays (on ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’), and writing all the backstories, they just expanded.”
Before “Mad Max: Fury Road” was released, Miller ended up with a “Mad Max” trilogy fully mapped out. What makes the title “Mad Max: The Wastleland” interesting is that the name of the world in which the “Mad Max” movies take place is The Wasteland, according to Comic Book.
On May 17, Sunday, Miller also took to Twitter to thank those who gave rave reviews to “Mad Max: Fury Road” and to confirm the sequel.
Co-written by Miller with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris, the story of “Mad Max: Fury Road” revolves around two rebels who just might be able to reinstate order in a barren desert landscape where humanity is ruined.
The two rebels are Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) and Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). While Max is a man of action and of few words, Furiosa is a woman of action with a mission to make it back to her childhood homeland.
Joining Hardy and Theron in the “Mad Max: Fury Road” lead cast are “X-Men: Apocalypse” actor Nicholas Hoult, “Flesh And Bone” actor Josh Helman, “Dark Ascension” actor Nathan Jones, “Insurgent” actress Zoe Kravitz, and “Furious 7” actor Jason Statham’s girlfriend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
“Mad Max: Fury Road” also stars Hugh Keays-Byrne, Riley Keough, Abbey Lee, Courtney Eaton, John Howard, Richard Carter, Iota, Angus Sampson, Jennifer Hagan, Megan Gale, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic, among others.
Before “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Miller directed “Mad Max” in 1979. It was followed by “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior” in 1981 and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” in 1985. Mel Gibson played Max in the first three “Mad Max” movies.
