‘Mario Kart 8’ and Mario Kart TV May Be Proof That Nintendo is Still in the Console Wars
With 1.2 million copies already sold on its first weekend alone, "Mario Kart 8" is looking at high time for the racer game. Having been launched before May ended, "Mario Kart 8" may be the title that can bring back to attention the Wii U, after the many times that it has been overshadowed by powerhouse next-gen rivals PS4 and Xbox One.
This is what seems to be the direction that Nintendo is pushing forward, as TIME reports that E3 2014 is meant to introduce new software for the Wii U and 3DS. This is a good time to show that new software is still relevant, as the Wii U is not yet "technically" dead as a next-gen console from Nintendo.

Being the fastest-selling game on the Wii U, it may become one driving point to boosting the sales for the Wii U, though Nintendo reportedly is not yet talking figures and causations when it comes to the "Mario Kart 8" and the Wii U.
Mario Kart TV Already Spotted with Videos
It seems that Nintendo has unleashed the Mario Kart TV via the web site even before "Mario Kart 8" the game has seen light in retail.
Ausgamers has spotted that Mario Kart TV is already available even before "Mario Kart 8" has seen its launch date. The Mario Kart TV is intended to highlight footages of races and allow them to be sharable and editable for uploading. So far, there are already videos that can be accessed either by PC or mobile devices.
Other features of the Mario Kart TV shows off other sharing capabilities over at Facebook and Twitter, with comment viewing allowed for those who are planning to share their gameplay footages via YouTube or Miiverse.
A Far Cry from the "Mario Kart" Wii U
Another possible reason why the "Mario Kart 8" is seeing such positive response is that it has pushed far beyond what was seen and played with the "Mario Kart" Wii version.
US Gamer reports that "Mario Kart 8"has refined all the unsightly aspects that went into the Wii version, with issues all resolved to ensure that the game really banked on skills rather than the enemy taking advantage of faulty AI.
Flexibility has also become a good point for "Mario Kart 8," and as the review emphasizes, there are a lot of karts to choose from, including ATVs and bikes. Customization of stats for characters is also possible, and the Wii U becomes a handheld that understands its own mechanics, features and capabilities, as they are all highlighted in "Mario Kart 8."
