Melania and Ivanka Trump will reportedly share Michelle Obama’s former office
The East Wing office traditionally used by the first lady of the United States is reportedly being turned as “The First Family Office.” The office will be shared by Melania and Ivanka Trump.
There are multiple reports that the first daughter has hired designers to redecorate the former First Lady’s office. “Not only is Ivanka moving into the First Lady's office, she's redecorating it. It's what they're going to call ‘The First Family Office,” a White House insider told New York Daily News.
Last month, transition aides of US President Donald Trump have started planning for an Office of the First Family in the East Wing of the White House, according to CNN. They were eyeing on the same place that served as former First Lady Michelle Obama’s office for the past eight years.
The new first lady is expected to move to the White House in June after her son with the president, Barron, finishes the rest of the school year in New York. In the 2016 presidential campaign, Melania has shared her plans to spend a majority of her time with Barron after husband takes office.
Ivanka, on the other hand, has been spotted several times in the White House. Most recently, the first daughter has joined a roundtable discussion in the White House as she talked about women in business with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The president told Fox News Sunday last month that he wanted Ivanka to be involved with his administration in some capacity. Trump said his daughter and her husband, Jared Kushner, were “two very talented people.” Kushner has been previously appointed as the senior adviser to the president.
“I would love to be able to have them involved. If you look at Ivanka - she's so strongly, as you know, into the women's issues and childcare ... Nobody could do better than her,” Trump said.
Trump's oldest daughter has confirmed that she has opted to put her fashion and clothing brand in the hands of Abigail Klem, the chief brand officer for the company. Ivanka has also stepped down from her senior position at the Trump Organization.
But some are not in favour of Ivanka being active in the White House. Richard Painter, a White House ethics lawyer under George W Bush, believes that it would be better if she will remain an outsider. “She can’t be getting into stuff at the White House that affects her businesses, she better stay an outsider,” he said.
