Microsoft Cortana Coming To Xbox One This Fall; Cortana On Android App To Hit Preview In July
Microsoft confirmed during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) conference that it will integrate its Cortana personal digital assistant into Xbox One this fall for its users based in U.S. and U.K. Microsoft continues with its efforts to integrate Cortana into all Windows 10 devices and into some non-Windows 10 based devices, as well, according to reports.
According to a report on ZDNet, a beta of Cortana companion app is also scheduled to reach Android users in July. Microsoft is working to enable the syncing of Cortana’s notebook across all devices where the personal assistant is available. The Cortana apps for iPhone and Android will allow users to do some (if not all) spoken and typed tasks as they will be able to do on Windows based devices, reports ZDNet.
"We're making some big changes to make it faster to get to your content and complete must-have tasks on Xbox One. And Xbox One will also become more intelligent with the help of Cortana," Microsoft said through its Xbox Wire webpage.
A report on Ubergizmo says, the Kinect would be required for Cortana to function on the Xbox One. “The best way to use Cortana on Xbox One is with Kinect. Voice commands make hands-free navigation easy so you can stay focused on your game,” the Ubergizmo report quoted Microsoft, as saying.
Microsoft is also redesigning the Home screen of Xbox One to deliver more consistent aesthetics across the console and Xbox Line on Windows 10, reports eWeek. Home will streamline how users discover new games and other entertainment options and give priority to frequently accessed content, as per eWeek report.
Microsoft is also in plans to bring the Xbox Avatars in a more prominent way on Xbox One. “We saw the passion from the community toward Xbox Avatars and are excited to bring them back in a more prominent way on Xbox One. We are modernizing the look of avatars with better image quality, keeping all the familiar customizations fans loved on Xbox 360,” says Microsoft.
Gamers will get quick access to notifications, friends list, party invites and messages during gameplay or while on the Home screen through a new guide that will slide in from the left side of the screen, reports eWeek.
