Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL launches with USB Type-C port and built-in wireless charging
Microsoft said its new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL are its most powerful Windows 10-powered flagship phones ever. Denoting a huge strategic shift, the company skipped a generation mark and took a leap from Lumia 930 to 950.
Panos Panay, corporate vice president for Surface Computing at Microsoft, introduced the newest members of the Lumia family of devices at the Windows 10 Devices event in New York City. The Lumia 950 is 5.2-inch device whereas the bigger Lumia 950XL sports a 5.7-inch QHD display.
Lumia 950 is powered by a 1.8 GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and houses a 3000 mAh battery. The Lumia 950XL touts a 3340 mAh battery, which can get juiced up by 50 percent in just 30 minutes of charging. On the other hand, the bigger Lumia 950XL is run by a 2 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, reports NDTV Gadgets.
Both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL run on Windows 10 Mobile. They feature liquid cooling technology adapted from the Surface team. Both devices come packed with 3 GB of RAM.
The smartphones sport internal storage of 32 GB expandable via microSD card up to 200 GB, unlike the previous Lumia 930. Windows Continuum will enable users to connect the Lumia 950XL to a display dock and use it as an external monitor, giving a big-screen optimised working environment.

Microsoft confirmed that both smartphones come with adaptive antenna technology. The USB Type-C port and built-in wireless charging ensures almost 50 percent faster charging. Both devices are supported by Windows Hello, a biometric system that will unlock the phone through facial authentication.
Microsoft packed the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL’s 20 MP PureView rear camera sensors with fifth-generation optical image stabilisation and Carl Zeiss optics (f/1.9), along with a triple-LED RGB natural flash. The 5 MP front shooter comes without a flash though.
Both the devices will hit markets in November. The Lumia 950 will be priced at $549 (AU$765) and the Lumia 950XL will be available at $649 (AU$903).
