Microsoft Lumia 950 vs Google Nexus 5X; which is best for you?
Two of the biggest tech giants on the planet introduced their most advanced and powerful flagship smartphones ever, plus their larger versions in a short span of just seven days. The Google Nexus 5X manufactured by LG was introduced at an event on Sept. 29 in San Francisco along with the larger Huawei-made Nexus 6P.
Yesterday, at the Windows 10 devices event in the New York City, Microsoft unveiled its latest Lumia 950 along with the bigger and premium Lumia 950XL. Here’s how these two flagships stack-up against each other.
Display
The Nexus 5X features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 screen resolution. On the other hand, the Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch AMLOED display. The Lumia’s display is remarkably sharp and its 1440 x 2560 resolution comes to 565 pixels per inch.
Camera
There’s a marked difference in the camera department. The Lumia 950 houses a 20 MP PureView 1/2.4” rear camera sensor with tricolour LED flash; Carl Zeiss optics (f/1.9); fifth generation optical image stabilisation and autofocus. On the other hand, the Nexus 5X houses a 12.3 MP rear camera with dual LED flash.
Both devices sport a 5 MP front camera. The Lumia 950 also supports living images with 4K video capture capabilities, reports Phone Arena.
Processor, Battery and Storage
Both flagship devices are powered by the hexa-Core Snapdragon 808 processor. The Google Nexus 5X comes with a 2 GB of RAM and houses 2700 mAh battery.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 touts a bigger 3 GB of RAM and a beefy 3000 mAh battery. The Nexus 5X comes in two storage options: 16 GB and 32 GB with no expandable memory. The Lumia 950 comes packed with 32 GB storage and has expandable storage up to 200 GB via microSD card.
Operating System
Both devices run on the latest operating systems by Microsoft and Google. The Android Marshmallow with update version 6.0 fuels the Nexus 5X, whereas Windows 10 Mobile runs the newest Lumia 950.
The differentiating factor
The most important feature the Lumia 950 has is Windows Continuum that enables users to convert the smartphone into a desktop computer, reports BGR. At the same time, users can enjoy the Windows 10 Mobile device, as well.
The Lumia 950 can be connected to a Display Dock via a USB Type-C port. It can also be connected to a display, keyboard and mouse, giving it a big screen working environment.
The new dual SIM Lumia 950 features adaptive antenna technology. The smartphone is also supported by an Iris scanner and a unique liquid cooling technology such as that used in laptops. The device is also accompanied by USB Type-C port that enables faster charging with the help of built-in wireless charging.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 appears to be a clear winner with its better camera, continuum support, wireless charging, bigger RAM and expandable storage options. The price of the device starts at $549 (AU$764). The 16 GB Google Nexus 5X starts at $380 (AU$529)
