Microsoft has removed a series of its anti-iPhone online ads after it was mocked on different social media Web sites. The videos depicted Apple employees during a meeting with a figure that appeared to be the late Steve Jobs.

“A Fly on the Wall in Cupertino” was supposed to be a “light-hearted poke” at Apple Inc., which has its headquarter in Cupertino, California. The videos, which have been taken down just hours after they were uploaded, showed two employees pitching their ideas for a new iPhone to an unspeaking figure who was seen only from behind.

The figure was understood to be the late Apple co-founder Jobs, though some would argue that it was probably supposed to be CEO Tim Cook or Senior VP of Design Jony Ive.

The advertisements were supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek look at what was perceived to be going on in an Apple meeting for iPhone designs, but they were ill-received by viewers instead.

Some commenters claimed that the lines were unfunny and cringe-worthy, while others noted how the ads seemingly portrayed Jobs was done in bad taste.

Some of the lines used in the ads include:

“My iWatch had to go back to R&D.”

“Is that really what you guys were working on for the last six months? What if the answer was yes?”

“Did we have to make the next iPhone out of plastic to save money? Yeah, bro.”

“You asked us to create the gold standard of smartphones and it turned out that is super hard.”

“We’re gonna give the people what they want. We’re giving them the finger... print! Fingerprint touch ID.”

Microsoft has pulled down the ads, explaining in a statement to TheNextWeb.com that “The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off the mark, and we’ve decided to pull it down.”
