Microsoft has slashed the price of the Core i5 variants of the Surface Pro 4 by $100, just as speculations start swirling that the Redmond giant has started working on the Surface Pro 5.

The Microsoft Store launched a limited period offer for the Surface Pro 4 that will expire on March 26. The Surface Pro 4 price has been reduced by US$100 for its Intel Core i5 processor models.

The first Core i5 model of the Surface Pro 4 come with 128 GB of SSD storage and 4 GB of RAM. The $100 (AU$132) saving reduces the Surface Pro 4 price to $899 (AU$1187), from its original cost of $999 (AU$1319).

The other Core i5 variant of the Surface Pro 4 is available with 256 GB of SSD drive and 8 GB of RAM. The $100 (AU$132) saving brings down its cost to $1199 (AU$1584) from its original pricing of $1299 (AU$1716).

Those who are interested in purchasing the Surface 3 tablet can take advantage of the deals available on Amazon. The retailer giant is offering a price cut of $115 (AU$152) and $125 (AU$165) on the Wi-Fi only models of 64 GB and 128 GB variants of Surface 3, respectively.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Microsoft may soon introduce more discounts for the Surface Pro 4 to gradually clear out its stock. This may be an attempt by the company to make way for the device's successor -- the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Early speculations indicate that Redmond giant may unleash the Surface Pro 5 in July or October this year, Mobi Picker reported. The company is also expected to be working on theSurface Book 2 after the successor of its first generation model. Both the rumoured devices are expected to be loaded with Windows 10 Redstone 2 update that will carry several new features and improvements.
