Minecraft 1.6.4 Updates, the Great Britain Minecraft Map, and News on Scrolls
With Minecraft Xbox 360 TU 13 already in Microsoft Cert Testing, the next update that is on the way for Minecraft is the 1.6.4 update.
In the Minecraft Weekly News update, an update revealed that the Minecraft 1.6.4 is already available in the link given.
"1.6.4 has been released through the launcher. Server links in their usual place at minecraft.net/download," said Nathan Adams a.k.a. Dinnerbone.
iDigital Times reports that part of Minecraft 1.6.4's change log includes fixes for unidentified Minecraft Realms bugs and saving issues for structures. Even with the release of Minecraft 1.6.4, the Minecraft 1.7 update is still very much underway, as Mojang continues to showcase snapshots of the update for surprises and awaited bug fixes. The most current version that has been released so far is Snapshot 13w38c.
There's also a shout out to the Minecraft Skin Scanner iOS app from 57Digital Ltd. Remember, this app lets you create your own skins, design them to suit your own taste, and upload it to your Minecraft world with just the use of your iPhone.
Another good piece of news to check out is the Papercraft contest, which showcases intensely amusing and amazing dioramas and renditions of Minecraft worlds with the use of another 57Digital app. Check out the link to see the three winners and the finalists, whose works of art are truly astounding and detailed.
A map of Great Britain--out of Minecraft
Minecraft has been used for a lot of things, but now it can be said that the game was used to recreate Great Britain through blocks.
The Next Web has found the work by Ordnance Survey, mapping specialist, which created 224,000 square kilometers of Great Britain with the use of 22 billion blocks.
While this has been created for geography purposes in academics, it can also have applications for OS OpenData as well.
The map is downloadable from this, but be warned that it's worth 3.6GB. Check out the screenshot here.
Note that the report has stated that the map is not an accurate rendition in terms of proportions. For instance, the Ben Navis can only go 128 blocks due to Minecraft's height limitations.
Scrolls: What's happening?
In related Mojang news, the developer's newest game is now taking quite a bit of shape, with October bringing in an update for the game. These include Judgment mode, spectating tools, 40 new Scrolls, and customisation options.
Mojang has also released some screens of the art, but puts a disclaimer that changes are not impossible at this stage of the development.
Check out some this sample screenshot.
