“Mortal Kombat X” is easily one of the most anticipated games of the year. Ever since the first trailer dropped, fans have been clamoring for more info, whether it be characters, DLC or the storyline. Well fans will now be able to preview the game in a different light, as the mobile “Mortal Kombat X” is available in the app store and is free-to-play.

As one might expect, the “Mortal Kombat X” mobile game plays very similarly to the mobile version of developer NetherRealm’s other popular fighting game “Injustice: Gods Among Us” or their other mobile brawler “WWE Immortals.” Players will have a team of three fighters to start with, as they take on other teams of three in a bid to win experience points and gold to unlock better characters as the game progresses.

Touch Arcade played the game and admitted that the mobile “Mortal Kombat X” is pretty much the exact same game as the mobile “Injustice,” using the same game mechanics where taping the screen will have the character do light attacks and swiping the screen leads to heavy attacks. That being said, the site had no problems with this development as “Injustice” has proven to be one of the most downloaded and addictive fighting games to hit the App store.

However, a review from Pocket Gamer expressed disappointment in the mobile fighter. While the review praised the game’s graphics and gore, it was said that the gameplay was too shallow and simplified, while also claiming that the game is a little too easy, as the reviewer pointed out that blocking was never an option to use as the enemies weren’t very smart.

Whether fans enjoy the gameplay established in titles like “Injustice” or not, it’s clear that the mobile game should be a nice primer for anyone excited about the console version of the game. Fans who are ready to do some fatalities can download the game right now on the app store, while the console version of the game is set to hit stores next week. Website, iDigital Times has confirmed that an Android version of the mobile title is in the works.
