July 24 is indeed a date to watch out for, as senior VP for Android and Chrome Sundar Pichai will be hosting the event.

It will be the perfect day to showcase the next-gen Nexus 7, though Phone Arena has also reported that there have been rumours about a Nexus 7 refresh still being pegged for the end of July.

Some other announcements that can be made at the event would be the Android 4.3. Since the latest leaked images of the Nexus 7 2 showcase the Android 4.3 OS, and since Pichai is the head of Android, it's highly likely that the update will be announced at the event.

Those who are invited to the event can check it out at 12 PM EST or 9AM PST. There is also a live-stream of the event, to be posted on Google's official YouTube channel.

Press release images of Nexus 7 2

So far, the entirety of the Nexus 7 has been seen via images, the first of which have been previously released to show that the Nexus 7 2 may, in fact, carry the Android 4.3, which is also expected to be announced on July 24.

According to Phone Arena, the new set of press images reveal a narrower but longer body, with a renewed Nexus logo at the back--larger and inclined vertically.

The images also show the Nexus 7 rear camera, pegged to be a 5-megapixel one, while a notification LED light is seen at the front.

As for the inside parts, most are speculations, with reports of a Qualcomm chip replacing the Tegra used for the Nexus 7, which may be the company's way of dealing with the problems surfacing for the current Nexus 7.

New Nexus 7 can turn things around for ASUS?

With more brands taking chunks of ASUS's sales, it seems that the Nexus 7's launch may be the thing that can turn this around.

As far as confirmations are concerned, ASUS will be in charge of the Nexus 7 2. In fact, one of the leaks earlier reported showcased an ASUS customer service personnel accidentally outing some of the Nexus 7 specs.

According to Tablet-News, once the Nexus 7 has finally been revealed and scheduled to launch, ASUS intends to ship 6.3 million units of tablets in order to reach the 12 million quota for 2013.

As previously reported, the Nexus 7 2 has been predicted to ship out at least 8 million units, though ASUS's strategy is now being reorganized as an early release for the Nexus 7 2 for June was not met.

Will the Nexus 7 2 hold the ray of hope for ASUS's better sales?
