Photos of what can possibly be a prototype of the Nexus 7 2 has been revealed via Android Central along a video, which has currently been set to private.

However, the photos are already something to go on, and by the looks of it, the prototype seems to be something ready for a beta testing.

Included in the photos are the written specs for the device, though Google has yet to confirm that the actual device is coming out, and when it will be delivered.

A look at the specs

First and foremost, you get a revamped Nexus 7 altogether. It's not just a refresh, because from the device body itself to the features, there are many additions.

The overall look has been updated, as per the alleged prototype from maker ASUS. It has the 7-inch LCD display, and an added 5-megapixel camera to go with the 1.2-megapixel front.

Another notable change in the hardware is the presence of dual speakers, touted to be an upper and a lower one and situated in different locations. One speaker is on the rear of the tablet while the other positioned by the USB port.

The inside of the device reveals the Qualcomm APQ8064 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, which belies other rumours. But the more surprising and might be a too-good-to-be-true added feature is the 4GB of DDR3L RAM, with the usual choice of 16GB or 32GB storage capacities.

There is still hope to know if the above device is really just a prototype or if it's near finished quality that's pegged to be the Nexus 7 2. Watch out for the possible July 24 reveal from Google for more details.

Pricing also gets leaked

Given that the Nexus 7 2 has been leaked to have a two storage options, there have also been revealed price ranges for each of the option.

According to TechRadar, the 32GB version carries the price tag of $229 USD (AU$248) while the 32GB is up just a few dollars at $269 (AU$291).

Know Your Mobile also reports similar prices, as both have been previously leaked to Android Central in a screenshot of what appears to be the device (labeled "Nexus 2 7" in this case).

In the leaked image, there were three different models for the 32GB option, though they do not differ in price, so there is no word on whether this is just an order listing of the same device or if there are significant differences in the models.

Potential flaws

Given the many problems and issues that the current Nexus 7 is suddenly bringing its users, Gotta Be Mobile reports that one of the main things that buyers should consider before nabbing the Nexus 7 2 would be the hardware.

And the problems have already been there since the Nexus 7 came out--including poor control and poor manufacturing. Memory has also been an issue, as many Nexus 7 devices have started to lag and brick with the cheap memory in tow.

Another issue would be the expandable storage. Other devices from HTC and Samsung offer expandable storage options, while Google has been very adamant about the Nexus having no such available option.

So far, the leaked hardware and software features have not shown any solution to these potential problem areas, but it's best to wait and see where Google is heading with its latest device.
