Nexus 2016 update: HTC working on Nexus Marlin (M1) and Nexus Sailfish (S1) running on Android N
In 2015, Google had released two Nexus smartphones, the Nexus 5X built by LG and the Nexus 6P manufactured by Huawei. This year Google is rumored to be working with HTC on building two Nexus 2016 smartphones that are codenamed as M1 and S1.
Evan Blass, the popular leakster has revealed that the Taiwanese tech giant will be building the Android N OS powered Nexus smartphones, M1 and S1. The M1 stands for Marlin whereas the S1 stands Sailfish, Android Police reported. As of this writing, there are no details available on the specifications and features of the upcoming Google Nexus 2016 smartphones.
The Taiwanese tech company has been struggling in the smartphone market since the past couple of years. However, the newly released HTC 10 smartphone is receiving good reception from the critics. Rumours are suggesting that the high-end version among the M1 and S1 smartphones will be based on HTC 10.
HTC has manufactured the very first Nexus phone – Google Nexus One in 2010. The Nexus 9 tablet featuring an 8.9-inch screen that was released in 2014 was also manufactured by HTC.
Recent rumours have suggested that one of the Nexus smartphones will be coming with a 5-inch display whereas the high-end version would be packed with a 5.5-inch display. Speculations have also indicated that the upcoming the HTC Nexus smartphones will be featuring pressure-sensitive touchscreens.
Both the smartphones will arrive preinstalled with Android N OS. The new version of Android N is expected to carry support a feature that is similar to 3D Touch by Apple. It will be able to distinguish between harder and lighter touch gestures on pressure-sensitive displays.
Recently, an upgraded version of Google Nexus 6P was spotted on GFXBench benchmarking site. It showed the device with the same moniker running on Android N, Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM.
