Nexus 6 vs. Nexus 5 – Specifications, Features, Release Date and Price Faceoff

Speculations surrounding the much-awaited Nexus 6 release date are rife. Meanwhile, the company LG has denied the rumors that it is making Google's upcoming Nexus device. If the latest reports were true, HTC could be making Google's upcoming Nexus 6 smartphone. Also, the Nexus 6 release date is set for October or November 2014.

Google was expected to announce the Nexus 6 smartphone in the Google I/O 2014 conference, but there has been no news on the device thus far. It is worth noting that, Google unveiled the successor of Android KitKat OS, the Android L Lollipop (also known as Android 5.0) in the event. And the SDK for the brand new OS update can be downloaded by developers starting June 26. But the OS will be available for public only during fall; hence it is realistic to expect the announcement of Nexus 6 in October or November 2014, says PC Advisor.

Google Nexus 5, on the other hand, was released in November 2013 and its boasts killer specs and stunning features. Here is a specification, price and feature comparison between the upcoming Nexus 6 and the Nexus 5.

Google Nexus 6 will feature a whopping LG G3-like 5.5 inches display with a phenomenal screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels (2K display). The Nexus 5, on the other hand, comes with a relatively smaller 4.95 inches True HD IPS+ display with a standard 1,080 x 1,920 pixels screen resolution. The pixel strength of the Nexus 5 is 445 ppi, while the upcoming Nexus 6 is expected to come with a superior 534 ppi of pixel density.

The Nexus 5 has an understated look with a plastic exterior and hence it doesn't boast a premium look. Nevertheless, the handset features an intelligently simple design and known for its impressive full HD display quality. Google Nexus 6, meanwhile, is expected to feature aluminum edges with thin bezel, according to Nexus6Me.

The Nexus 6 will reportedly be powered by a quad core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 805) Krait 450 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz. Whereas the Nexus 5 is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. The Nexus 6 is expected to run on either Android 5.0 (Android L) or Android 4.5 OS, while the Nexus 5 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, which is upgradable to higher OS versions.

The Nexus 6 will house a solid 3 GB of RAM. In addition, the device will come with 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage capacity. The Nexus 5 houses a 2 GB of RAM and it supports 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage capacity with no microSD card support. If rumors were true, the Nexus 6 might support microSD card for memory expansion.

The Nexus 5 supports NFC, hence the upcoming Nexus device is expected to follow suit. Similar to Samsung Galaxy S5, Nexus 6 handset is expected to come with fingerprint scanner mechanism. Also, the Nexus 6 features a water and dust resistant exterior and hence the device is IP67 certified, says PC Advisor.

If rumors were true, the Nexus 6 could house the following 3100 mAh battery, 13 MP and 5 MP rear and front-facing cameras. While the Nexus 5 features the following specs 2300 mAh battery, 8 MP and 1.3 MP rear and front-facing camera units.

The Google Nexus 5 (32 GB) variant is priced at AU$489.95. According to Indian mobile retailer 91Mobiles, the upcoming Nexus 6 could be priced at Rs.40000 (roughly translates to US$655 and AU$706). It is worth noting that, the aforementioned price details should be taken with a grain of salt because none of the details are confirmed thus far.
