In the latest in the National Football League, or NFL, the Cleveland Browns have surprisingly added another quarterback in Josh McCown to pit him against previous QB in the line-up, Johnny Manziel under centre for the team in the upcoming season.

The Browns franchise agreed to a contract with the free agent QB McCown on Friday in a deal worth around $3 million according to a report from Ian Rapoport, writer for NFL.com. Rapoport shared the news on Twitter with Mike McCartney, the agent of McCown, who also confirmed the acquisition by Browns on social media.

"I just want to serve our team and help everybody in that locker room, do my best to help everybody in the locker room be better at their job and they're going to help me, too. It's a two-way street," McCown said to ESPN.com after the signing. "I'm just excited about coming in and being a part of a team.

The deal will produce a battle for the starting job in Cleveland which also has the popular and controversial Manziel in the roster. Hoyer will most likely hit free agency with the McCown deal.

The 35 year old McCown is not a long-term solution at the QB spot for the Browns but being a journeyman in the NFL means they have a veteran player who will bring stability to the team. McCown has suited up for the Arizona Cardinals from 2002 to 2005, Detroit Lions in 2006, Oakland Raiders in 2007, Miami Dolphins in 2008, Carolina Panthers in 2008-2009, San Francisco 49ers in 2011, Chicago Bears from 2011 to 2013 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014.

In the interview, McCown stated the he’s prepared to help the young quarterbacks in Cleveland and help their growth in the league.
