NFL News: Minnesota Vikings Open To Getting Back Adrian Peterson
Assuming Adrian Peterson takes care of his off-field issues, the Minnnesota Vikings are open to having him back with the team in the National Football League, or NFL, according to a report by Ben Goessling of ESPN.com.
The ESPN NFL Nation reporter tweeted the development last Wednesday and had a few more interesting Peterson-related tweets.
Mark Wilf is the Vikings’ team president and owner while Kevin Warren has recently been promoted to Chief Operating Officer, or COO, of the franchise. According to the Goessling there is a shift in the strategy with regards to the Peterson issue. Peterson was suspended on Nov. 18, 2014 by the league because of incidents involving abusive discipline towards his four year old son. He has not been reinstated by the league.
While Peterson may be reinstated back by the league, there’s still the contract issue between Peterson and the Vikings. In the 2015 NFL Season, Peterson is due $12.75 million with $15.4 million counting against Minnesota’s salary cap making him the highest paid running back in the entire league.
There are reports that the Vikings may request for a pay cut from Peterson and that they should re-structure the current contract to make a more cap-friendly deal. Without Peterson for much of the 2014 NFL Season, the Vikings won 7 of 16 games in the regular season and failed to qualify for the postseason.
The 29 year old Peterson played just one game in 2014 for the Vikings. Peterson is a six-time Pro Bowler making the team in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. He led the league in total rushing yards in 2008 when he had 1,760 and in 2012 with 2,097 yards.
