NFL News: Philadelphia Eagles Wanted Draft Picks In McCoy Trade
The Philadelphia Eagles were aggressive in wanting to trade LeSean McCoy in this offseason of the National Football League, or NFL. The Eagles front office initially wanted to acquire draft picks in exchange for the star running back, according to a report from Jenny Vrentas of MMQB.com.
The Bills offered linebacker Kiko Alonso and the Eagles agreed to make the deal which was finalised in early March.
Alonso was a former player of Eagles head coach Chip Kelly with the Oregon Ducks in college football. McCoy has spent the last six seasons with the Eagles and was one of the top running backs for the team totaling 6,792 rushing yards on 1,461 carries with 44 touchdowns but is deemed a bad fit in Kelly’s spread offence.
The 26 year old McCoy was the league’s rushing leader in 2013 and is a three-time NFL Pro Bowler in 2011, 2013 and 2014 plus also a two-time NFL First Team All-Pro member in 2011 and 2013.
The Bills-Eagles trade involving McCoy reportedly just took 30 minutes to finalise as admitted by Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan back in March.
"The trade for LeSean happened really quick. We were all sitting there. We were having organizational meetings. And all of the sudden we get this call from Philadelphia and I think that was when the trade started. Probably 30 minutes later, the trade was done.” The Bills head coach said in an interview.
