Tim Hightower is attempting a comeback in the National Football League, or NFL, after a career-threatening torn ACL injury in October 2011. The 28 year old running back is working out with the New Orleans Saints and is hoping that he gets another shot to prove himself in the sport.

"When I went down, I wrote down on a sheet of paper that this wouldn't be the end for me," Hightower said to The Times-Picayune. "It was a long process. But I don't think I ever stopped training. I don't think I ever stopped working toward this goal. As I trained, as I did rehab, as I went to the different surgeries, I just tried to keep that end picture in mind.”

Hightower has signed a reserve-future contract with the Saints in January but the deal isn’t guaranteed of financial or actual field time with the team. Hightower played for the Arizona Cardinals from 2008 to 2010 before getting hurt and had a short stint with the Washington Redskins in 2011 before falling to a torn ACL. He attempted a comeback with the Redskins but was cut before the start of the 2012 season.

With another shot at a return to the NFL, Hightower said that the Saints want changes within the team after a trying 2014 NFL season and that the Saints organisation may be looking for a player who not only contributes on the field but also as an influence in the locker room, as reported in the same article.

When asked why he was still choosing to return to the game and go through the tough NFL workload on his body, Hightower stated that it’s still his dream to play the game at the highest level.

In his last stint in the NFL with the Redskins, Hightower ran for 321 rushing yards on 84 carries and added 78 receiving yards on 10 receptions in five games. His career-highs came in his third year with the Cardinals in 2010 when he ran for 736 yards on 153 carries and had 136 receiving yards on 21 receptions in 16 games in the regular season.
