After earlier reports that Wes Welker is considering retirement from the National Football League, or NFL, the veteran wide receiver is now committed to play in the 2015 NFL Season with the veteran denying that he’s retiring from the league as earlier reported by multiple sites.

According to a report from the Denver Post, Welker shoot down retirement rumours and is now preparing for the upcoming season. Welker was reported to be contemplating retirement from the league in a Fox Sports article last Thursday and even consulted family and friends about the decision. That report has now been denied by Welker in a text message.

"Just getting ready for 2015," Welker said.”Never ever came out of my mouth.”

The recent denial should add more drama for the Broncos regarding Welker, who will hit free agency on March 10, 2015 and will be an unrestricted free agent, or UFA. As an UFA, Welker will be free to sign with any other NFL team. Despite his low numbers the past season with the Denver Broncos, he remains one of the prized free agents in the market in the position.

Earlier reports stated that he is not interested in going back to Denver and may be looking for other NFL teams to play for in the 2015 season. The Broncos are also dealing with the pending free agency of veteran star quarterback Peyton Manning, whose salary will be guaranteed for 2015 if he’s on the roster on March 10.

Broncos wide receivers potentially under contract for 2015 are Emmanuel Sanders, Isaiah Burse, Andre Caldwell and Cody Latimer. The 33 year old Welker suffered a series of concussions in the 2014 NFL season and it started talks of retirement due to the dangerous nature of the sport. With Denver, Welker finished with 778 receiving yards on 73 catches and 464 receiving yards on 49 in 2013 and 2014, both low numbers compared to his stats when he played for the New England Patriots from 2007 to 2012.
