NFL Trade News: St. Louis Rams Trade Zac Stacy To New York Jets
The St. Louis Rams traded Zac Stacy to the New York Jets days after the running back demanded to be traded from the team. The 24 year old RB, who spent his first two years in the National Football League, or NFL with the Rams, demanded the trade after the Rams selected RB Todd Gurley in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Stacy had a good rookie season in St. Louis running for 973 yards on 250 carries in 2013 but his stats fell off in 2014 when he had 294 rushing yards on 76 carries. He has 8 rushing touchdowns in his NFL career.
Stacy, who will enter his third NFL season after playing college football with Vanderbilt, tweeted “Yikes.” when the Rams selected Gurley in the recent rookie selection and immediately deleted it on his social media page.
The Jets, who gave away a seventh round pick in the transaction with the Rams, will add Stacy to it’s running back depth that includes Daryl Richardson, Chris Ivory Stevan Ridley and Bilal Powell.
"We thought the idea of bringing Zac in for that kind of investment would be very beneficial and increase the competition at that position," Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said to ESPN.com. "He's had success in the league. Two years ago, he was close to a 1,000-yard back. This past season, his production wasn't quite as high, but we do think he's a good-caliber running back."
Other teams like the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots were also interested in acquiring Stacy, according to the same ESPN report.
