Nokia Android phones latest news: Monthly security update announced

Nokia announced on their Twitter page that the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 will receive monthly updates. This includes updates in both the Android operation system as well as the security updates.

With the upcoming release of the Nokia’s Android smartphone line up, many buyers are wondering how up to date the phone can be. In a tweet sent out to Nokia, a user by the name of Madhav Chinnam asked Nokia how long the company can withstand the promise of having an updated version of the Android OS. The user also added that Google’s Pixel will be able to hold upgrades for the next two years.

Monthly updates for new Nokia Android phones

As of the time of writing, the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 are all said to come out-of-the-box with the Android 7.0 Nougat. It is said to receive regular software updates. However, the company has not given any deadline. Nokia Mobile, however, replied to a Twitter user Madhav Chinnam that they will be regularly sending out software updates. This means that if there are any Android OS updates, the Nokia phones will be able to receive them. Furthermore, it is indicated that the Nokia Android phone lineup will receive monthly security updates from Nokia. (See tweet below.)

The monthly updates will be a way for the handsets to be secure. This is in comparison to the Pixel devices, Nexus devices, Samsung devices and other Android devices that receive monthly security patches directly from Google. However, Nokia did not mention for how long the new Nokia Android devices will be receiving updates. The major updates will be given to these phones for at least the next two years. This information is not true for all Android devices especially for cheap ones, according to PhoneArena.

It is expected that the Nokia 6 will be able to receive major Android updates for the next two years as it is a flagship phone. However, the same cannot be said about the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.

Release date

As of the time of writing, the expected release date of the Nokia 6 is on April 5. The Nokia 5 and Nokia 3, on the other hand, are expected to be released on March 31. However, there is no official word from Nokia.

Recently, the Nokia 3310 is set to be released sometime in May. This information suggests that the Nokia Android phones may be released soon afterward. It is unless Nokia releases a statement regarding the official release dates for the upcoming Android phone lineup.
