Nokia XL (Dual-Sim) vs. Samsung Galaxy Core (Dual-Sim) – Specifications, Features and Price Comparison

The Nokia XL has recently been released in May 2014, while the Samsung Galaxy Core was released in June 2013. Display, Exterior and Size

The Samsung Galaxy Core features a 4.3-inch TFT display bundled with 480 x 800 pixels screen resolution. The Nokia XL, on the other hand, comes with a bigger 5.0-inch IPS LCD display along with the same resolution as the Samsung handset. Also, the pixel density of the Galaxy Core and the Nokia XL stand at 217 ppi and 187 ppi respectively.

The Nokia XL resembles the original Nokia X with the same plastic exterior. However, the handset is quite hefty. With a weight of 190 g, the Nokia XL is heavier than many other inexpensive phones available in the market. The silver lining is that the construction quality is top-notch. Furthermore, the finish of the handset can be compared to high-end phones and there are no rough edges, providing the look of a pricey phone. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Core features plastic rear synonymous with Samsung handsets. The handset is comparatively compact and the grip is solid. However, the screen is smudge-prone, says Phone Arena.

The thickness and the weight of Galaxy Core are 0.35-inch and 124 g respectively, whereas the Nokia XL is 0.43-inch thick and weighs 190 g. Hence, the Galaxy Core is both thinner and lighter when compared to the Nokia XL.

Interestingly, both the phones are powered by the same dual-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play) ARM Cortex-A5 processor. However the Nokia handset is clocked at 1 GHz, while the Samsung handset is slightly better at 1.2 GHz.

While the Galaxy Core comes with 1 GB of RAM, the Nokia XL comes with a relatively inferior 768 MB of RAM. Moreover, the Nokia XL runs on Nokia X 1.0 UI on top of Google's Android OS, while the Galaxy Core runs on Android OS v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean).

Also, the Nokia XL comes with only 4 GB of internal storage, along with microSD card support for expansion up to 32 GB, whereas the Galaxy Core comes with 8 GB of memory and expansion capacity up to 64 GB.

Camera and Battery

Both the phones sport 5 MP rear-facing camera units with LED flash. While the Nokia XL features a 2 MP front-facing camera, the Galaxy Core comes with a VGA shooter in the front.

The Galaxy Core houses a Li-Ion 1800 mAh user-replaceable battery, whereas the Nokia XL houses a relatively better 2000 mAh user-replaceable battery unit.

Connectivity, SIM and Colour

Both the phones support Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot and USB charging. It is worth noting that, both the handsets support Bluetooth v3.0 and not the typical Bluetooth v4.0. When it comes to SIM, both the handsets support optional dual-sim mode. Also, both the handsets come with micro-sim support.

Furthermore, the Nokia XL comes in bright and fresh colours like red/orange, green, cyan, yellow, white, and black. However, not all colours are widely available. The Samsung Galaxy Core, meanwhile, comes in metallic blue and chic white.
