The debate on the Stefan-Caroline or "Steroline" romance in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 continues as actors Paul Wesley and Candice Accola talk about the love life status of their characters. Will Stefan Salvatore and Caroline Forbes eventually mend their broken hearts together after ending the romantic relationship with Elena Gilbert and Tyler Lockwood?

The chances of bringing Stefan and Caroline more closer appear to be high since the two famous TVD characters are both single, going through the pain of a break-up, thanks to Elena and Tyler, and there have been certain tender on-screen moments that make some fans begin to think they can be more than just friends. Paul Wesley and Candice Accola talk about the possible vampire romance in Season 5 during an interview at the CW TV series' Atlanta set.

"The writers really like to tease Stefan and Caroline. They always have that there, but they don't quite do anything with it. I'm always a little confused. I don't know if we're going for it or not, so when I do scenes with Caroline, I'm always like, 'Am I supposed to be playing this platonic, here?' ... I would imagine that they're going to go into that direction because they keep hinting at that," the 31-year-old actor stated in the TVLine report.

However, Mr Wesley's beautiful blonde co-star has something else to say about the rumoured pairing. "Even though, maybe from an audience perspective, there's some great, very easy moments with them together that could be looked at as 'chemistry,' I don't think that the characters in their world see it as that. To Caroline, Stefan is just a friend and a companion - and Elena's one true love. She wants Elena and Stefan to be together," Candice, 26, shared.

Ms Accola further talked about how her character is dealing with the heartache of splitting from Tyler. The actress revealed: "Tyler was her first true, true love, so she's heartbroken. But she's strong and she's trying to put on a happy face."

She further added that the relationship with Tyler Lockwood is the one thing that Caroline cannot control. "It seems like this is the one part of her life where she can't get any control, and it's the only part where she wants to. This is the beginning of her not necessarily spiraling, but searching and not being as strong and confident as we've seen her in the past," Candice Accola explained.

Even though Caroline is heartbroken, Candice Accola revealed to TV Fanatic to assure the TVD fans that the feisty blonde remains strong. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on the CW Network.
