World's thinnest phone is here and it is accredited by none-other-than Guinness World Records. The handset in focus is Gionee Elife S5.1.

Gionee Elife S5.1 has recently been released in China and the company presented the handset as the thinnest smartphone ever, during its launch. The device measures a meagre 5.1 mm or 0.2 inches in thickness. According to Gionee, the latest device Elife S5.1 is being acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the slimmest phone ever manufactured, reports Phone Arena.

Apart from being the super-slim phone, the Gionee Elife S5.1 is in fact a budget-friendly, mid-range device. The handset features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display packed with 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution and 320 ppi pixel density. The phone is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz and backed by 1 GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on Android v4.3 OS along with Gionee's Amigo v2.0 UI on top of it. Also, the device weighs 140 g and supports micro-SIM.

When it comes to camera, the handset sports a 5 MP wide-angle front-facing snapper for selfies and an 8 MP rear-facing camera unit with LED flash. The company offers 16 GB of internal storage capacity with no support for microSD card. Apart from the standard connectivity options, the Gionee handset also supports 4G LTE. Lastly, the device comes equipped with a good 2100 mAh battery unit.

The phone is currently available for purchase in China for 1999 CNY (that roughly translates to US$325 and AU$366). Also, the Gionee device comes in black, white, pink and the lovely mint green hues. Speaking of exterior, the company has utilised both metal and glass materials to offer the killer premium look to the super-slim device.

Furthermore, Gionee also offers a 5.0-inch, octa-core MediaTek SoC powered smartphone called Elife S5.5. This handset is slightly thicker than the Elife S5.1 at 5.5 mm and can be availed from many regions in Asia. However, there is no information available to ascertain if these devices will be released outside of Asia.
