Japan's Sony Corp is hammering out plans to rise from the ashes of nearly $10 billion lost in six years by building a future around its last consumer electronics blockbuster - the PlayStation. Sony plans to reposition the video console warhorse as a hub for a network of streamed services, according to three senior officials, offering social media, movies and music as well as games. The PS4 2.0 firmware update has been promised way back in August during Gamescom, when Sony first teased that this update will bring in the Share Play feature for its next-gen console. Detailed previously at the PlayStation Blog, Share Play is said to be a virtual couch that lets you play online local co-op with friends.

What's great about Share Play is that you can play with your friends even when they don't own a copy of the game. However, Sony did confirm that this feature will only be available in 60-minute time pockets.

Not much has been said or talked about by Sony regarding the Share Play feature or the PS4 2.0 firmware update, but Worlds Factory has spotted an update from supposed insider Tidux.

According to the report, Tidux has tweeted that the PS4 2.0 firmware will be released soon, though he did not specify any release windows or month. Sony has seen a slower output of firmware updates, with the latest bringing in 3-D Blu-ray support.

Many people have even speculated that the PS4 firmware update 1.75 was churned out in response to Microsoft's July software update for the Xbox One, which brought the same feature to gamers. The PS4 2.0 firmware update talk from Tidux should still be taken with a grain of salt, at least until Sony drops a hint or gives a go signal on the update.

Meanwhile, there is a bit of good news for those who are waiting for the upcoming PS Plus lineup of free games for October, because a more definitive response from Sony's Fred Dutton has been spotted by Gamepur. The source reports that Dutton has confirmed that free content for the PS4 and other PlayStation platforms will debut as early as Oct. 8 for the October PS Plus lineup.

Granted, he did not give a list of game titles, but Dutton reportedly assured fans that they can expect the details to be revealed on Oct. 1 through the PlayStation Blog's comment section. "At present it looks like the next batch of Plus games will go live on October 8th, so look out for the announcement on or around October 1st," Dutton said over at the PlayStation Blog, as quoted by Gamepur. In another comment on PS Plus suggestions, Dutton also said, "I can't give way future Plus titles I'm afraid. Look out for the next Plus update in a week or two."
