PS4 Gets Party Chat With 2,000 Friends Free, Gamescom Solely for PS4; Flexible Memory Open to Gaming
The list of features that Sony is offering for its next-gen PS4 is growing, this time to include an expanded list of friends whom users can chat with when they get the console.
Compared to the Xbox One, the list of friends that PS4 can handle has been expanded to 2,000, while the party chat is offered as a free feature without the need for a PlayStation Plus subscription, reports PlayStation Lifestyle.
Part of Access PlayStation's 10 questions for the PS4 has also revealed that it will allow carryover of avatars and accounts from the PS3 to the PS4.
Apart from this, Sony is looking at the possibility of 3D support for the PS4, though this seems to be more of a project in progress than any tangible update.
gamescom may be a great way for these updates to take hold of, especially if the added feature will be slated to complement gaming for the console.
Flexible memory will be 100% game memory
Sony clarified that the flexible memory allows games to be used with FreeBSD virtual memory functionality, and is technically, separate from the Direct Memory, which is categorized under traditional game models.
"The article states that 'flexible' memory is borrowed from the OS and must be returned when requested-that's not actually the case," said Sony's official statement regarding the matter as reported by GameSpot.
What should be clear is that Sony confirmed that the flexible memory is 100% to be the game's memory, and will never be used by the OS, which means that it can be utilized by the developers for the PS4.
But one matter that has not been officially confirmed is the allotted 3.5GB of memory for the OS, and the functionalities that a big OS allotment can mean for the PS4. Exactly what other plans can the Sony have for its next-gen console?
Look forward to the PS4 for Sony's gamescom 2013 conference
The next battleground for the console wars is undeniably the gamescom, to be held this coming August in Cologne, Germany, and it seems like Sony is readying itself for a battle of games, rather than reacting to the developments that Microsoft has been churning out after the E3 2013.
"With the buzz around PlayStation 4 building, 2013 continues to be one of the most exciting years ever for video games fans. A host of next generation titles were unveiled at the PlayStation Meeting 2013 and E3 2013. At gamescom in August 2013, the focus will be on the PS4 and its games line-up once again," read the official statement on Sony's Facebook page as quoted by VG 24/7.
Considering that Sony has not made any new announcements for its PS4, whether it's in hyping up on its Gaikai service or its work-in-progress of cloud capabilities, it seems that the company is still standing on pretty solid and confident ground, as though there's no need or hurry to try and match up to the other offers that the Xbox One is currently offering in its lineup.
What it is hyping up on is its diverse games line-up, with the list aiming to get longer as Sony promised earlier that it would be revealing more games at gamescom.
This may really be a battle between the two giants, but after all the policy reversals that Microsoft has introduced for the Xbox One, what other surprises will it throw at Sony's and the public's way for gamescom 2013?
