PS4 System Update 3.00 Changes Detailed With No Backwards Compatibility Features
PS4 players have something to look forward to this week. Sony has started rolling out the PS4 System Update 3.00, and it will bring a couple of new improvements based on community feedback.
Sony has detailed the new features over at the PlayStation Blog Europe. There is a long list of features included, starting with the addition of the Events app on the homescreen. Players will now be able to see the activities related to games they are interested in. This makes it easier to see and get into double XP events and broadcasts. Also accessible via the homescreen is the PS Plus dedicated section, which is another addition.
For the social aspect of the PS4, video sharing via Twitter and live streaming from the PS4 to YouTube is now possible with the update. Additionally, the Request to Share Play and Broadcast are now both options that friends can try with each other. This allows players to sample a game and even broadcast it online. The full details can be found at PlayStation Blog Europe.
Sadly, the Kenshin update may not address the previous rumour of playable PS2 games on the PS4. Before, a report from PlayStation Lifestyle hinted the possibility of some PS2 titles finding their way into the PS4.
An anonymous tipster had posted a screenshot of the Live From PlayStation on the PS4, which showcased two titles, “Siren” and “War of the Monsters” on the PS4. Even fans had sounded off their thoughts on the lack of PS2 playability on Sony’s next-gen console.
“Wasn’t this supposed to bring PS2 classics in some way, shape or form? This update was kind of a letdown—I really wanted PS2 games on my PS4,” said PlayStation Blog EU user Bio_Dio.
Granted, Sony did not officially announce the feature on the PS4. And while a lot of people were expecting these features on the PS4 System Update 3.00, there may still be other plans in the future.
