Red Fly Studios eyes second chance at cancelled Darth Maul ‘Star Wars’ video game
“Star Wars” fans should be familiar with one cancelled video game that was must-play for many gamers. The cancelled game featured “Star Wars Episode I” antagonist, Darth Maul. New reports show that the developer of the supposed title is eyeing to get a second chance on the game.
The unnamed Darth Maul “Star Wars” video game featured the antagonist years before Episode I of the franchise. In an AMA on Reddit held recently, creator Dan Borth of Red Fly Studio said that he and his team are working on negotiations regarding the cancelled Darth Maul game. He added that the development team is currently working on a demo for next-gen consoles which showcases the powers of the would-be video game lead. To get the project started, Red Fly Studio must first get the approval of “Star Wars” game’s exclusive publisher, Electronic Arts.
The title was revealed to be in the works in 2010, after developer Red Fly Studios removed itself from the Wii version of “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2.” Little is known about the game but there are a few gameplay footages available online.
The story of the cancelled game revolves around a young Darth Maul, aged at 9 to 11. It shows how he worked his way onto joining the Dark Side and becoming a Sith and sees him killing a lot of Jedis and Bounty Hunters. Gameplay footages show the cruel attitude of Darth Maul as he relentless kills soldiers using his trademark double-ended lightsabers. The combat pace of the game was fast and moves are pretty smooth. Apparently, the developers took inspiration from “Batman: Arkham Asylum” when it came to combat gameplay.
Polygon reports that in an interview with Game Informer last year, the developer noted that it did its best to finish the project. However, the game was ultimately cancelled after just 8 months in development.
