Riot Games announces location for an upcoming ‘League of Legends’ tournament
Riot Games’ popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), “League of Legends,” just recently concluded the Oceanic Pacific League Finals a couple of weeks ago. Now the “LoL” developer has announced a new target location for the upcoming International Wild Card All-Stars (IWCA), which will see the tournament happen in the land down under for the first time.
The International Wild Card All-Stars in Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena as reported by Kotaku Australia, will be a four-day tournament set to begin on Nov. 26 and will end on Nov. 29. The IWCA will see the best “League of Legends” teams from Oceania, Turkey, Russia, Japan, Brazil, South East Asia and Latin America as they battle it out for a spot at the “League of Legends” All-Star Event (ASE).
The ASE for this year will be held in Los Angeles this December. Basically, the IWCA will serve as a qualifying round of the biggest “League of Legends” tournament this year. The winners will, of course, not only represent their respective teams, but their regions as well.
This also marks the first time that the IWCA winner will join the ASE event in Los Angeles, MCVUK reports. Just like past ASE tournaments, fans will vote on the favourite five players to create a regional dream team. This year’s ASE will be held from Dec. 10 to 13 at the North American LCS Studio in Los Angeles.
“We are really excited to hold IWCA in Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena,” said Riot Games Oceania eSports manager Daniel Ringland. “It’s going to be great to see players putting aside their team rivalries to represent their regions. We hope fans from around the world rally behind their All-Star teams.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale starting on Sept. 7 at 11 am, but tickets are only limited to 6,000. The prices for the event are $25 (AU $ 35.99) for the Nov. 28 game while tickets for the Nov. 29 game will cost around $30(AU $43.19).
