During the SXSW panel, co-creator of "The Walking Dead" Robert Kirkman revealed details for another upcoming game based on the popular franchise, this time under the development of studio Overkill. Branded as "Overkill's The Walking Dead," the game will apparently be a multiplayer-centric shooter similar in vein to another popular shooter from Overkill, "Payday: The Heist."

Kirkman told Polygon that "Overkill's The Walking Dead" will be very similar to "Payday: The Heist" but with a much bigger world. While the Image comic writer didn't reveal too much, he did state that some announcements for the new "Walking Dead" game would be coming soon.

He also took some shots at the abysmal "The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct" game, stating that "Overkill's The Walking Dead" and the upcoming licensed game "Air" will not be marketing tools and will not be relying on character likeness to sell the game. The writer also expressed happiness with the success Telltale Games has had with the franchise and is optimistic about what Overkill has planned with the game.

"That's the thing we try to do with all of our things. Try to come up with a way to make it exist in its own right, as opposed to cashing in on the success of The Walking Dead or whatever we are doing." Kirkman told Polygon.

An article from Forbes has teased several scenarios that could appear in the title. While players won't be robbing banks like in "Payday," they will have to stock up on supplies in zombie-infested supermarkets and maybe even rescue hostages from cannibal camps.

Players can't rely on just shooting, however, as stealth will be a very important aspect in the game. Similar to Techland's "Dying Light," it appears ammo and resources will be limited so players will have to be careful and conserve with their weapons.

Overkill has had previous experience with another zombie shooter in "Left 4 Dead." Overkill had teamed up with Valve to release a DLC pack for "Payday: The Heist" called No Mercy, where the mission would take place in one of the signature areas of the popular zombie shooter. No Mercy was also rumoured to be a prequel to the "Left 4 Dead," but Valve quickly stated that it was not.

No release date for "Overkill's The Walking Dead" has been revealed, with Kirkman saying they would take their time making the game a good one. It appears Kirkman doesn't want to make the same mistake that has plagued many license games and should inspire confidence to fans of the series.
