Ryan Murphy Boycotts Dolce And Gabbana Over IVF Remark, Supports Elton John In Social Media War
After Sir Elton John, producer Ryan Murphy is the latest celebrity to express outrage over the comments of well-known fashion designers from the house of Dolce and Gabbana. Controversy erupted when Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said gay adoption was unnatural and called those born via IVF “synthetic children”. The statement of the designers instantly garnered response from John who took to Instagram and urged his followers to ban D&G.
The social media spat took an ugly turn when Gabbana responded to John’s comments and called him “fascist”. The latest to join the bandwagon is the “American Horror Story” creator who told The Hollywood Reporter that he would not buy D&G products anymore in his personal capacity nor use them in any of his productions. Murphy added that he would also urge other Hollywood celebrities not to use or buy D&G.
The “Glee” producer who has two children with husband David Miller also took to Twitter on Mar 15 and came out openly against the designers and told that their views were never in fashion, besides asking his fans to boycott D&G. He put forth the logic behind IVF and went on to say that IVF was not a gay issue it is a scientific miracle that helps families to fulfil their dreams of having children. The director of “The Normal Heart” even predicted that the designer’s comments will give rise to widespread discontent and have far reaching effects among the gay community who have been wearing clothes from the designer label.
The campaign has got support from all quarters with singers Ricky Martin, Courtney Love, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, actor Dan Bucatinsky and Even Ryan Murphy showing their support to Elton John. Meanwhile, the designers have since released a statement saying that their remarks were merely “personal views” and that they “did not judge other people’s decisions”. Dolce and Gabbana who was a couple earlier in a recent interview to Italian Magazine “Panorama” made the comments about IVF and adoption.
Murphy informed that way back in 2006 in an Italian newspaper, Gabbana had said that he wanted to have his own biological child through IVF. The producer called the designer a “hypocrite” and asked them not to use the family image to sell their products. Murphy made a comparison to the Beverly Hills Hotel instance when the hotel was boycotted by the gay community in April 2014.
