Samsung Could Debut the 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus Very Soon, Suggest Unconfirmed Reports
Samsung is reportedly in plans to take the wraps off the 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus, which is a variant of the Galaxy S6 featuring a bigger screen and other enhancements, according to reports.
The new phone that is internally codenamed Project Zero 2 (formerly Project Zen) at Samsung would debut in the coming weeks, reports HDBlog.it via CNET. The South Korean company had released the Galaxy S5 in April 2014 and in October, it launched the Galaxy S5 Plus with a more powerful processor. According to unconfirmed reports, Samsung is likely to adopt a similar strategy in 2015 for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The S6 Plus, which is expected to be available with a larger screen, would be an early option to the Galaxy Note 5 phablet that is likely to be unveiled at the IFA conference scheduled to be held in September, reports CNET.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Galaxy S6 Plus would sport a Super AMOLED display, which is larger than the 5.1-inch screen in the S6 and S6 Edge. Similar to the S6 Edge, the S6 Plus would also sport a curved display on both edges of the screen, alongwith a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 16 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera and 32 GB of internal storage, CNET reported.
A report on GSM Arena says, the Plus model has been put on an odd spot in the company’s product lineup. It talks about the capable hardware but the SoC is still not top of the line. Besides that, a 5.5-inch display screen cements the gap between the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series that could affect the sales, according to the report on GSM Arena.
CNET quoted research firm Counterpoint saying, Samsung sold 6 million units of Galaxy S5 smartphones at the end of April, which is less than one month after the smartphone’s launch. In terms of larger screen sizes, Samsung faced tough competition from Apple iPhone 6 that featured a 4.7-inch screen and iPhone 6 Plus that featured a 4.7-inch screen.
