Students walk out of Samsung Electronics' headquarters in Seoul July 7, 2014. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd on Tuesday said operating profit likely fell 24.5 percent in April-June, its lowest in two years due to slowing growth in the company's cash cow smartphone business and the strength of the South Korean won. Very recently, we reported that Samsung is planning to release the Galaxy Note 4 ahead of the schedule due to rife competition from Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple's unprecedented number of pre-orders and sales is the reason behind this move by the South Korean conglomerate. However, now, we have information on the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the counterpart of Note 4 with a curved display.

Apparently, Samsung officially announced in a press event in South Korea that the Galaxy Note 4 will be released on Friday, September 26. Moreover, the device will hit the store shelves of additional 140 countries towards the end of October. And the release date in the U.S. is slated for October 17, according to Phone Arena.

Surprisingly, D.J. Lee, President of Samsung Electronics officially announced that the Galaxy Note Edge will be a "limited edition" phablet. Meaning, this intricate technology-driven device will only be shipped in limited quantities across the globe and the release date will widely vary from region to region.

As a first step, the Galaxy Note Edge will be released in the home-land South Korea sometime towards the end of October. However, the release date pertaining to other countries will not be anytime sooner than 2015. The publication also opines that the Galaxy Note Edge will be way too pricey when compared to the Note 4, owing to the unique and technically challenging bent-display design.

According to Hyundai Securities analysts, Samsung will likely ship 1 million Galaxy Note Edge phablets, in addition to a whopping 11 million Galaxy Note 4 units by 2014 end. It is worth noting that this shipment number is not according to the market expectations.

The reviews have been mixed so far, with analysts opining that habituating to the bent-display could be a huge hurdle for many new users. However, the problem doesn't end here; earlier Samsung explained the difficulties in manufacturing the Galaxy Note Edge by wording it as a complicated process. Hence, it is only fair that, the Galaxy Note Edge will be shipped only in limited numbers.

Key features of the Note Edge include a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution, a quad-core processor clocked at 2.7 GHz under the hood. Also, the phablet runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with 4G LTE and 4G LTE Advanced (LTE Cat. 6) options on board. Speaking of camera, the device sports a 16 MP rear-facing camera unit with Smart OIS, in addition to a 3.7 MP secondary snapper with f/1.9 lens.
