‘Scandal’ Spoilers: It’s ‘Mini-Armageddon’ When ‘True Blood’ Alum Arrives As Mellie’s Sister In Season 4
[Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers from episode 16 of "Scandal" Season 4, read at your own risk.]
“True Blood” alum Lauren Bowles has signed on to play Mellie’s (Bellamy Young) sister, Harmony. A lot of secrets are going to be revealed about the first lady when her sister makes an appearance. Bowles will be guest-starring in this week’s episode, titled “It's Good to Be Kink.”
Mellie and Harmony’s reunion cannot be described as a happy one, according to Young. She told TV Guide, “when her sister comes, it's a little mini Armageddon." The actress said to The Hollywood Reporter (THR) that the sisters’ storyline is a “bloodbath.”
The arrival of Harmony is likely to “derail” Mellie’s plan to project herself as a potential presidential candidate. In one of the recent episodes, Mellie had told Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) that she wants to become the President of America. Elizabeth (Portia de Rossi) fears that Mellie’s sister could be detrimental to their political aspirations, according to episode 16 synopsis of “Scandal” Season 4.
"Mellie's past and where she comes from is not at all what she wants you to think,” Young said to TV Guide. According to the actress, the first lady “did not start out where she ended up.” It will be fun to find out about Mellie’s background, Young said.
Episode 16 of “Scandal” Season 4 will also see “Girls” star Lena Dunham, who is a huge fan of the show, guest star as Kinky Sue. Dunham’s character had consensual sex with some of Washington’s most elite, including senators, lobbyists, ambassadors and bureaucrats. Sue has written a memoir based on her sexual escapades with these powerful men. The book, if published, has the potential to bring down Washington and ruin many careers and families. Olivia will be seen getting into action to stop the publication of the book.
Guillermo Díaz, who plays Huck on the show, has told Vulture that Dunham is playing a character that she has never played before. Speaking about the episode “It’s Good to Be Kink,” Shonda Rhimes, creator of “Scandal,” said to Vulture that it is a fun episode. She also said that the episode has a surprising end.
