Google Chromebooks have been targeting schools with their new device. Chromebooks are similar to laptops, except it has minimal storage, direct access to Google applications, and boots within 10 seconds. News Corp. announced in a press release about their Amplify tablets designed for offices and schools.

The Acer Chromebook is the best deal offered by Google. The price begins at $199 with features of built-in Google products, ultra-bright screen, within seconds-user switching, free access to Google Drive for backup and storage, and no extra software needed for virus protection.

The Amplify tablet runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, is equipped with Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, and designed even for children at the kindergarten level. According to the Amplify.com, their innovative tablets are meant for learning with new exciting curriculum such as English language Arts, Science and Math. The learning also involved interaction through game-like activities and intuitive tools using wireless technology.

Chromebook vs. Android tablet

Chromebook and Android tablet have one thing in common, its small amount of storage compared to computers or notebooks.

Chromebooks use tools directly from Google either offline or online and can add more applications, depending on the learning needs. Applications from Google are found at the Chrome Web Store which is likely used by Chromebooks for learning such as different foreign language tools, sciences with 3D models, and academic tools for teachers. The device can also be used for business-related functions such as accounting, human resources, legal and sales. The biggest advantage of the Chromebook is less burden for IT management such as additional antivirus protection, internet setup, privacy, and maintenance.

Amplify tablet, on the other hand, uses Google's Android OS. It is a very flexible mobile operating system which can access applications from Google Play Store. Play Store offers hundreds of thousands of applications that can be used for classes, seminars, conferences and workshops. There are also learning tools for Android with 3D simulation such as flying an airplane, navigating a ship or driving a vehicle. Amplify tablets cost at $300, inclusive of training materials and customer care for teachers.
