Sony Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update For Late July With Official Changelogs Released From Japan
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update is rolling out later this month to many Sony Xperia smartphones and tablets. Changes of the new software ranges from user interface, applications and security updating features from Android 4.4 KitKat and Android 5.0 Lollipop.

There are several changes made by Sony on the upcoming Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update expected to be released starting late July 2015 onwards. Changes include modification of certain icons, configuration of the Settings menu, added options on the user interface of Quick Settings and more. Users with Android KitKat running Sony Xperia smartphones will notice the changes more dramatically on this new software.
- Settings icon has been replaced with a “gear” icon.
- New icon design and configuration of the Settings menu.
- Added new options on Quick Settings for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks.
- Clear All Notifications button on the Status Bar is now located at the bottom of the entire list.
- Close All Apps now include an X button on each app as an alternative action to swiping left or right.
- What’s New app replaces the Update Centre app containing collective information about stored media files and new software updates.
- Notifications when the device is locked will appear in the middle of the screen.
- Three lock screen clock design to choose from: Sony Clock, Digital Clock and Analogue Clock.
- Smart Lock feature of Android 5.1.1 includes Bluetooth Unlock and Face Unlock in addition to standard Pattern, PIN and Password unlocks.
- Smart Lock also features Trusted Locations, Trusted Voice and more security options.
- High Resolution via USB Audio is now longer manual and the device will automatically detect if available.
- SensMe featured on the Album app has been removed but the normal slideshow is retained.
- Copying of calculation results on the Calculator app has been removed.
- Several changes on how to set Time and Date.
Official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Sony Xperia devices will commence later this month to several models including the Xperia Z Series. Certain models such as Xperia M2 will automatically jump from Android 4.4 KitKat to this newer software version.
