Sony PlayStation 5 could be the cheapest console of them all
The upcoming Sony PlayStation 5 just might turn out to be the cheapest gaming console of them all. Sony Computer Entertainment reportedly has huge plans of implementing new technological advancements to the upcoming gaming console.
It would appear that the Japan-based company wants to be at par with its rivals, especially now that various entertainment tech companies have started to offer more high-tech devices for public enjoyment, as China Topix has pointed out.
Realty Today has reported that Sony Computer Entertainment might opt to ditch disc drives with the upcoming PS 5. Instead, the company might decide to work on a console that involves streaming services. After all, it is worth noting that disc drives are slowly getting more obsolete - yet not completely phased out. Although the release of the PS 5 remains unconfirmed to date, it is believed that it could turn out to be the cheapest console in the market.
"Steam on PC has taught us that disc drives are becoming less and less necessary," Ben Wilson, the former editor of Sony's official PlayStation magazine, told Tech Radar. "But, I cannot see them being phased out completely for a while yet. People love their boxed products and 'experts' have been predicting the 'imminent' demise of the CD for more than 20 years."
Now that the gaming world is now also strewn with technological advancements with regards to the most popularly used gaming consoles, fans have also taken to special edition games with invisible downloads. However, it is also worth noting that there might still be others who will remain loyal to the physicality of the console and its game discs.
"There will always be those who prefer special editions and sexy packaging to invisible downloads!" Wilson added. "It is those guys and girls who will ensure disc drives live on within gaming, in some form."
At present, the Internet is abuzz with rumors about the upcoming PlayStation 5's specs and release date. However, fans believe that Sony will still be launching new PS 4 models pretty soon - in addition to a revamped CUH-1200, which, in turn, will enhance the console's sound, as well as improve its power saving mode and heat generation.
