The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact has recently been unveiled at the IFA event held in Berlin and the release date is pegged for September. The Oppo N1 Mini, meanwhile, was released in August in selected regions. However, now, the device is available across the globe. Readers who are interested in the Oppo N1 Mini or the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact should check out this specification, features and price comparison.

Display, Exterior And Size

The Oppo N1 Mini comes with a 5.0-inch IPS LCD display bundled with 720 x 1,280 pixels screen resolution. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, on the other hand, features a relatively smaller 4.6-inch IPS LCD display but the resolution is same as the Oppo device. In addition, the pixel densities of Oppo and Sony handsets stand at 294 ppi and 319 ppi, respectively.

Oppo's new device offers premium look with its quality build. The phone looks similar to the bigger Oppo N1 for the most part. The N1 Mini features a brushed steel band covering the phone edge to edge. And the rest of the area is covered by matte-effect laden durable plastic. Interestingly, the unique mint colour elevates the Oppo handset to a whole new level, says TOI. The Xperia Z3 Compact, on the other hand, features an aluminium frame and hardened glass rear. Moreover, the Sony handset uses Bravia range of display technology that provides crystal clear viewing experience. The display quality stands out especially when watching videos or playing games, says Trusted Reviews.

Speaking of size, the thickness and the weight of the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact are 0.34-inch and 129 g, respectively, whereas the Oppo N1 Mini is 0.36-inch thick and weighs 150 g.

Hardware, Software And Memory

This is an area the Sony device trumps the Oppo handset fair and square. The Xperia Z3 Compact is powered by a superior quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz. Meanwhile, the Oppo N1 Mini is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. However, both the devices house the same 2 GB of RAM.

When it comes to OS, the Oppo device runs on Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean along with ColorOS v1.4, whereas the Sony handset runs on Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS. Furthermore, both the devices offer 16 GB of internal storage. While the Sony handset comes with microSD card support for expansion up to 128 GB, the Oppo device doesn't.

Camera And Battery

The Oppo N1 Mini houses a unique 13 MP primary camera unit with LED flash that can be swivelled (turned) back and forth. This way, even the front-facing camera can capture images with the same 13 MP sensor. Therefore, Oppo N1 Mini is the crème de la crème device for selfie enthusiasts.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact features a stupendous 20.7 MP primary camera with LED flash and a 2.2 MP snapper in the front. Additionally, the Sony handset comes equipped with a superior Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery, whereas the Oppo device houses a relatively inferior Li-Ion 2140 mAh battery unit.

Additional Features

1. Both the phones support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE and microUSB. While the Sony handset supports NFC, the Oppo device doesn't.

2. While the Sony device features water- and dust-resistant exterior (IP68 certified), the Oppo device doesn't.

Price

The Oppo N1 Mini can be purchased for AU$539 at Oppo Mobile. On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is priced at £429.00 (that roughly translates to AU$773) at Sony Mobile UK.
