'One Tree Hill' actress Sophia Bush grieves the loss of her dear friend and ex lover, California Google Inc. executive Dan Fredinburg. The 32-year-old took to Instagram to express her heartbreak over his death, as well as the death of thousands devastated by the terrifying earthquake that shook Nepal.

"He was one of the great loves of my life. He was one of my truest friends. He was an incredible brother, a brilliant engineer and a damn good man," she wrote on an Instagram post. Bush laments that she will never get to see him again, extending her heartfelt sorrow to the families and friends of the departed in Nepal.

The pair dated for a year before breaking it off sometime February last year, 2014, citing long distance relationship troubles as the cause for their breakup. It appears they remained fast friends though, making it all the more heart-wrenching.

According to the New York Times, the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal Saturday has led to more than 1,800 deaths and left more or less 4,700 people injured. The sheer intensity of the quake caused numerous avalanches on Mount Everest, and in its aftermath lay at least 17 dead trekkers. Dan Fredinburg was the first confirmed American among them.

He had been climbing up the highest mountain peak for a little less than a month now, unwitting about the tragedy that await them. According to The Jerusalem Post, Fredinburg was part of the Everest expedition organized by the Jagged Globe company.

He was accompanied by three Google co-workers. His companions managed to make it out alive, but Fredinburg wasn't so lucky. The company confirmed that a couple of others sustained injuries, but thus far none of them fatal. The death toll continues to rise as Nepal struggles getting back its grounding in the disaster aftermath.
