Square Enix reveals plans to remake more classic games after 'Final Fantasy VII'

It seems like the upcoming remake of “Final Fantasy VII” was just the tipping point as Square Enix has revealed that there will be more remakes of the company’s classic games for years to come. While no specific title has been mentioned, the fact that the company will be going through its old library may excite older gamers.

According to the 2015 annual report that Square Enix released, remakes will now be a big part of the company’s business plan, along with mobile games, which have helped them make plenty of money. The plan is to revitalise some of the company’s older IPs and make them more relevant to modern gaming.

The company will be recreating games from scratch, similar to the upcoming “Final Fantasy VII” remake for the PlayStation 4. However, not only will they be making games for newer consoles, they will also be developing versions for mobile devices.

It’s an interesting move as the company is planning to port the PC version of “Final Fantasy VII” to the PS4 and other portable devices. It seems like if the company were to remake a game from the ground up – “Chrono Trigger” for example; then there seems to be a good chance that the original version of the game will be ported to mobile devices.

GameSpot also covered the fact that fans of the company seem to glorify the older library of games made by Square Enix. Considering how many fans were excited about the “Final Fantasy VII” remake, it’s easy to see how representatives of the company got that idea.

Whether this lead to any remakes for “Final Fantasy VIII” or “Final Fantasy IX” remains unclear, but it is no longer out of the question either. It should be noted that Square Enix recently released the “Final Fantasy X/X-2 Collection” and “Final Fantasy Type 0 HD” for the PS4. Both games came out on the PS2 and PSP respectively, prior to coming on Sony’s current generation console.

In the mean time, fans still have the “Final Fantasy VII” remake to look forward to, though no definitive release date has been announced. There’s also “Final Fantasy XV,” which will have its release date announced sometime in March.
