‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens': A Look At The Rebel General's Costume
A new cast for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” may have just revealed how the Rebel General’s costume would look like in the film. According to a report, actor Ken Leung was recently cast in the sequel to play the role of Resistance General. [Possible Spoiler Ahead]
Starwars7news.com concluded that actor Ken Leung will portray the role of the Rebel or Resistance General based on the military uniform he wears in the film. “We’ve seen a definite proof that the actor is portraying some sort of military officer in the film,” the site said. Leung’s costume in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reportedly consists of a brownish uniform with reddish belt. His uniform as the Resistance General also has an insignia that matches the old rebel rank insignia used in previous films.
The site provided a photo which shows the five red dots that marked the rank of the Resistance or Rebel General. However, Leung’s costume reportedly uses lines instead of dots. The actor’s costume supposedly also shows a similarity to Ackbar’s rank uniform, as seen in this other photo shared by the site.
Michael Kaplan, costume designer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” previously told Variety that the costumes worn by the Resistance characters consist of "khakis and olives and some oranges—warmer colors." According to Starwars7news, these colours definitely describe Ken Leung’s uniform as the Resistance or Rebel General. Whereas, Kaplan revealed the Empire’s costumes consist of “very cold blacks and grays and metallics and teal blues,” which clearly shows a distinction from the Rebel’s uniforms.
No further details were revealed regarding Ken Leung’s involvement in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” He will reportedly only have a minor role in the film since he only shot his scenes for a few days. However, this stands as a rumour until otherwise confirmed by Lucasfilm.
Ken Leung is best known for his role as a mutant in “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006). He also had a chance to work with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams in the “Lost” series. His other film projects include “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” (2001) and “Red Dragon” (2002).
